Sewing Machines Monsters and Mayhem

Well this weekend my sewing machine died on me. I sent it in to be repaired but unfortunately it looks like it will take about three weeks or so for them to get to it their backed up I guess. I can do some building until then. Get caught up on some foam work. I remade the Peaches dress this weekend, that’s the elephant. I do have a backup machine but it's very slow. There are some things I can sew on it but I try not to use it for to much because it doesn't like the real thick fabrics like fur that is two or three layers thick. It's an Elna if anyone knows the brand, I have always wanted one from the 50's and found it on EBay for about 80 bucks. I love it and it sews well.

I will be doing some foam construction during the week. Maybe if I get a chance I can post some things up here.

Racoons Possums and Bears

Yesterday a current client of mine sent me a series of drawings they designed for one of their clients. I have been building their puppets now for the last couple of months and these are potential new ones "maybe" if their client likes them I could be the one to make them. I wish I could show you the designs some of the puppets are very cute and I would really love to make them. Several are puppets I have never made.

I said before that this past week has been the week to meet up with old friends. When I got in this morning I not only had an email to answer from a collage friend but a high school friend had emailed me. It’s really great to see how well everyone is doing. It's funny how time heals all wounds. People who you had feuds with no longer remember why you were feuding in the first place. I hope to hear from more of my friends as the years go by.

In addition I have been designing puppets for a western that some of you may or may not know about. We were set to begin filming in May but I think now it will be a little later as we are producing a Batman film first. The western though is something I have always wanted to do. I promise to post up some of the drawing here when I get a chance.

Puppet updates

As I promised I would show some udates to a couple of characters I have been working on. Here they are molly1 molly2 and here is the elephant. I have to make adjustments to the outfit but it's coming well peaches1 peaches2 peaches3
Let me know what you think. I have been working for a while on these two and I am very close to them being done. I have four more that should hopefully go more smoothly after these two awhile working on my friend Andy's puppets at the same time.

Site updates and such

I just finished doing some visual updates to my portfolio site www.jaytyson.com If you get a chance please take a look. I posted some photos in my forum for the puppets I was talking about. You can't see them yet but the client was very happy with them. I should be finished with that female puppet (which is a Dolly Parton caricature) and an elephant this weekend. If the client has no objections I will post them to my forum in a general category. If not they will be in the puppet gallery on the main page.

This week seems to be the week to catch up with old friends. I have heard from several people I went to High School and collage with. It’s great to hear what everyone is up to these days.

Chickens tanks and fish...oh my

Pods is coming along, I should have the remade chicken tank scenes done this week. I am also working on the three eyed fish for the quick fish tank scene. I hope to have the finishing touches on these last couple of shots done by next week. Still waiting on music though, a friend of mine sent me an instrumental yesterday that was pretty good. His nephew did it by I guess layering in each instrument as he played it. Sounded real good, had kind of a Robert Rodriguez feel to it. I hope to find someone soon who is will to write a good soundtrack, we are limited on money these days our budget is almost used up and I want to wrap the film as soon as possible so we can work on a couple others.

I have bee working on a couple of puppets for a performance team called the Chrisagis brothers. There reference material is awesome they are fantastic artists but these girls I have been making were tough. They are so detailed compared to a regular puppet which is generally more simplified. Hopefully I will have some photos soon. I should be none with them in the next couple of weeks.

Starting Things Up

I decided to create this Blog to talk about puppets I'm making and film projects I'm doing. I hope it generates some actual intrest out there. I am just finishing up a short feature film called "PODS" which is in the sound track stage and final effects. Anyone who wishes is welcome to watch it and any of my other films we have created here at Doctor Puppet films such as "Puppet" "Coffee Impossible" and a new Batman Fan Film we are working on called Batman: Strings of Evil

I'd love to know what anyone thinks of our film work and puppets.

We have also started a forum for puppetry, puppet building and puppet films.

Thanks

Jay
